Universal serial bus ports were designed as a replacement for conventional serial ports.
Most new computers will have at least 2 ports or more as standard. these allow devices to be plugged in and out without the need to turn off your pc or reboot to configure them.
New devices when plugged in are configured automatically by the pc operating system/bios and given the pc resources the device requests.
These new ports can allow up to 127 usb devices to run simultaneously( if you have enough hubs available)
Another advantage is that a extra PCI card does not need to be added to your Pc for some devices
Version 1.1 allows the connection of low speed 1.5Mbits rate and high speed 12Mbits rate devices.
