Here how to get windows running again (.Providing your
hardware is ok and bios setting's are correct ).Try the following in this order.
- If you have just installed a device driver. Boot
into safe mode and use driver roll back ,to restore old driver. Find the
vendor website and re-install the latest Driver.
- If you have just installed some software .Boot into safe
mode and use add and remove in control panel to remove software .Find the
vendor website and re-install the latest software patch or upgrade
available.
- If the reason is unknown ,first try a cold reboot .If the
problem persists try to start Xp from the last known good configuration.
- If above don't work use check disk with fix option in
safe mode and try rebooting.
- If this don't work use system restore from safe mode to
restore your Hard disk to the last working configuration safe point. If
successful ,run full anti-virus scan , to make sure you have not restored a
old configuration with a virus.
- If still no good .Boot system with a emergency anti-virus
disk and repair any virus found and try to reboot..
- If no virus is found , then it is likely that one of the
following are corrupt.
- Start up files
(to renew Boot.ini use "Bootcfg /REBUILD" )
- Partition Boot
Sector ( to fix partition use "fixboot C: " )
- Master Boot Record
( to fix use "fixmbr \device\harddisk0" )
these can be fixed with the commands shown in brackets in
Windows Xp recovery console.
8. Last resort you can repair your windows installation
by booting from your original Xp disk and using the repair option .
