SATA is a new way to connect drives within your pc via Serial ATA Interface
Serial ATA is the new replacement for conventional Parallel ATA used to connect Hard disks , CDRoms and DVD-ROM/Ram Drives to your Motherboard.
It is designed to be compatible with all current operating systems and software.
The interface uses lower voltages and will provide a transfer rate of 1.5 Gigabits per sec and later will be increased to 3 or even 6 Gigabits per second.
The interface provides smaller connectors and thinner cables ,giving easier cable routing over the previous ribbon cables whic
h tended to block air flow from fans in case thus creating heat problems.
The new interface will use one drive per cable .
Configuration will be easier for drives as there will be no need to set jumpers (master/slave).
Existing ide drives may be made compatible with a converter.
New motherboards will see for the moment both old and new interfaces used and later the old will be phased out .
