- Check sound level adjustment both in software and on
speakers themselves . (This may sound pretty oblivious but people do forget to
check this )
- Are the audio cables connected correctly (green jack
connection for 2 speaker stereo )
- do mains powered speakers have power !
- Check that the Audio card or interface enabled in the
bios setup
- are the necessary drivers installed either for the on board
sound or addin card. Check device manager for tell tail yellow exclamation
symbol !
- If there is a red 'X'
either the device is disabled or has a fault .
- Does the device manager show a conflict of resources i.e.
IRQ , address . if so re-allocate a unused resource to the device.
- Can you play a cd but don't here start and exit sounds .Try
allocating a different sound file it may have become corrupt to pc events.
- Try cleaning pci sound card connector edge with a pencil eraser
and re-inserting.
- Try Pci card in a different slot.
- Try disabling other hardware in device manager which may be
conflicting.
- If you hear sound on pc events but not from a cd in play .
check the internal sound link from cd player to sound card or interface ,
is attached
In windows Xp other helpful information can be obtained from system
information utility or DirectX Diagnostic's utility or use system help
troubleshooters !
