CD & DVD Disc Type's

What you need to know !                                

Here is a list of disk types and formats

• CD's --------- Compact disk's normally pre-recorded with copy write music
• CD-R--------  650 mb  blank "-" disc format which can be used to record only ONCE data or 74 minutes of music
• CD+R -------  Same as above but with a "+" type format
• CD-RW ------650 mb blank "-" disc format which can be erased and recorded repeatedly with data or 74 minutes of music
• CD+RW ------Same as above but with "+" type format
• DVD-R ------- 4.7 GB Blank Digital Versatile Disk with "-" format. Records video Only ONCE which can be played on most home DVD players
• DVD+R ------- Same as above with "+" format play's on most newer dvd players
• DVD-RW -----4.7 GB Blank Digital Versatile Disk with "-" format which can be recorded ,erased up to 1000 times approx and play's on most home DVD Players
• DVD+RW -----Same as above but with the "+" format
• DL DVD+R    -----Same as DVD+R above but now disks have a double layer and can hold 8.9GB
• DL DVD+RW ---- Same as DVD+RW above but now disks have a double layer and can hold 8.9GB
• DVD-Ram -----4.7 GB each side .disk can be wrote to up to 100,000 times once formatted and accessed like a hard drive .Some drives use disk's which  are protected in a cartridge type caddy and others drives don't.

Formats

• DVD-Video --------In this format disks can hold up to 17 GB of movies if both layer's on both sides of disk are used
• DVD-Rom  --------- Pc suitable file format for storing data
• DVD Audio -------- New format for audio CD's                                                                               

Note's

When buying disks make sure you have the right compatible disk's for your drive .

A drive which supports DVD Multi Spec is compatible with most types of disk.

You can only read finalized cd's in a cd-rom drive
